I created an early version of this site while Darien was a grad student at Arizona State University, now an assistant professor at Buffalo State. The current site was recently redone to take advantage of my experience and convert the site from the Dreamweaver tables I had created it with. Darien supplied me with the color palette and I focused on creating a clean design that allowed his unique work to be the focus.
The current version gives much more focus to the ability for Darien to update the site himself. The images are sequentially named to allow for easy replacement, while the combination of HTML & CSS makes it easy for him to open the file and substitute the project’s details. File folders are also set up to make it easy to upload images to the correct place.
Because Darien also shoots his own work he may have a number of shots of the same piece. The initial site used icons to represent the availability of shots and their orientation to the “front” image as well as close-ups. User comments hinted at some confusion as to the meaning of the icons so this design uses a much simpler, and cleaner, numbering notation.
